  • Level generator for gaming applications

Currently, there is a certain quantity of different game level generators. However, most of solutions in this segment have typical disadvantages, such as lack of versatility, specialization on specific game level types, game logic or incompatible output data. Some of these solutions require additional software or special hardware, when some of them are encapsulated in a gaming application without any possibility of interaction with user. These problems could be solved by developing partly-automated universal game level generator that supports certain level of human control. Proposed approach involves partial automation of the process of creating game levels. Designed generator is implemented as a dynamic link library that contains all necessary tools for generating game level. The library is the main part of the software package. This library implements several different methods of generating game levels that include functions for generating basic path, creating static geometric objects and placing interactive game objects. This software package also has specific tool for game level designer that allows declaring and designing pluralities of basic level elements which are used by the generator.

  • The environmental effects on the vibrational properties of individual carbon nanotubes

In this paper the environmental effects on the vibrational properties of individual carbon nanotubes were studied by means of Raman spectroscopy. The individual nanotubes were first synthesized by catalytic chemical vapour depositon method. Then their geometric structure was determined by electron diffraction and high-resolution electron microscopy. The intrinsic experimental relationship between RBM frequency and the tube diameter was obtained and certain deviations from the expected 228/d relationship were found. The effect of the substrate was identified as the most probable explanation for these experimental observations. In order to quantify the origins of deviations, we propose a comparison between our experimental data and calculations performed in the framework of elasticity theory.

We discuss the main criteria of this method and give an example of index-assignment of individual double-walled carbon nanotube. We argue that the combination of several techniques gives the most accurate and unambigous structure identification.

  • Psychophysiologically motivated method for estimating the amount of information in an image

The paper proposes a method of calculating the amount of visual information in an image. The method is based on the model of local analysis in the early vision. We are talking about the information perceived by an observer under certain conditions, not about the information contained in the raster image per se. Simple striate cortex neurons respond to the simple visual features of image, for example, the bright stripes in a dark environment, and the brightness gradients. To evaluate the amount of information in the image, it is possible to take the ratio of the number of activated neurons to the total number of neurons in a model. It is necessary to consider the angular size of the image to calculate the value of the estimate.

  • A method for retrieving from a digital photograph of a human face of the information sufficient for its recognition

In this report, we propose an approach to the automatic extraction of such components of the image, that are most useful for human observers to solve the recognition task. This approach is based on the concepts of psychophysiological mechanisms of grouping the simple features at the preattentive stages of visual processing. A method is based on digital image processing by a software implemented model "filter-rectify-filter". The extraction of the most informative areas of the photograph is based on finding local maxima of the model "outputs". The calculation results indicate that the areas of the image containing spatial modulations of the local features may be very useful for the recognition of faces.

  • The research of biological models of the social groups with various gender structure in stress

The results of research of characteristics of behavior under stress, depending on the individual level of testosterone and sex composition of the group are presented in the article. Study was an experiment with natural biological model of a small social group. The laboratory mice were used as model animals. The living conditions in the modern city were modeled in experiment. The influence of external factors to the level of testosterone in the animals blood, both males, and females, are demonstrated. A correlation between the characteristics of the individuals behaviour in the group and the concentrations of testosterone was detected out. For the males the nature of this relation was not dependent on the number of stress factors: the dominant male-mouse has had the highest rate of male sex hormone in the blood. The females of the control group had the opposite trends: most active female-mouse had testosterone levels below the average. In stress the feedback watched for females became similar to trends specific for males. The same-sex groups had feature consisted in higher concentrations of testosterone in the blood of the test mice compared with animals that belong to bisexual group, as well as the more aggressive nature of relationships in group and the lack of a dominant individual. The parallels between the obtained results and data of the researches of social processes are considered.

  • Repair of vehicles and special equipment in the field

Abstract: Operation of motor transport and special equipment is carried out in difficult conditions, the impact of environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, dust, wind, solar radiation) and changes in modes of operation of the machine. This affects the performance of equipment, the number and complexity of repairs. Away from fixed bases (in the field), the problem is particularly acute repairs. One of the most energy-intensive and expensive works are welding (welding parts with a break, welding cracks, fusing metal layer on the worn surface, metal cutting). In this work the welding equipment affect the voltage drops in the supply mains, therefore, produces a large number of failures such equipment. After the equipment is accompanied by an increased amount of electric power consumption, this results in material costs. Previously proposed equipment has improved mass, which reduces the efficiency of the welding. Based on this study was proposed innovative design welding inverter using the resonance effect, with enhanced reliability, low-cost design version (in terms of mass production). In order to improve the reliability and reduce the cost of the proposed design of inverter proposed a number of new approaches. Full-bridge inverter is studied welding power source with the implementation of the resonance effect with a stable and smooth operation, high reliability, because the circuit of the inverter is not sensitive to changes in the supply voltage.

  • Electronic structure and magnetic properties of quasi-2D systems MeO (Me = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni) in ferromagnetic ordering

Band structure calculations were performed for quasi-2D MeO systems using the pseudopotential method within density functional theory. The calculations were carried out within the plane waves methodology using pseudopotentials. Density of electron states was calculated within the approxination of collinear magnetism. We examined the electron structure and estimated the electronic and magnetic properties of FM-ordered quasi-2D MeO systems (Me = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni). It has been demonstrated that the MnO - FeO - CoO - NiO row exhibits a shift in 3d spin down states of the metal relatively to the Fermi level towards the low-energy region. The above affects magnetization in 2D systems of oxides of 3d transition metals. The character of electron density distribution in quasi-2D MeO systems (Me = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni) indicates ionic bond type between the atoms in Me systems. The tendency towards increase of the band gap in the FeO→ CoO→ NiO row has been established. The obtained estimates of the local magnetic moment of a 3d transition metal atom in crystals of examined oxides correlate with experimental data. In conformity with existing views in physics, we have revealed the effect of spontaneous spin polarization of Me 3d and 2p bands of oxygen atoms in quasi-2D MeO systems (Me = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni), which in our opinion plays the main role in generation of magnetic moments in the atoms of 3d transition metal and oxygen.

  • Energy conservation during treatment of sewage from populated area

At present an important role in solving energy conservation problem is assigned to thermal pumping plants (TPP). Using processes of evaporation and condensation of easily boiling liquid circulating in the system they extract low potential heat from environmental objects and provide heat supply for buildings, constructions, greenhousee and so on. Artificial sources of low potential heat for TPP of different capacity can be, for instance, ventilation air and exhaust gases, circulating and waste water, ground. Energy efficient reasonability of TPP use in the system of water disposal for the town of Novocherkassk in Rostov region is considered. Calculations indicate that there is a technical potential to replace a boiler house operating on expensive gas fuel and emissing into the atmospere more than 850 t of carbon dioxide - greenhouse gas - with ecologically clean TPP, one of which uses heat of waste water and the other - heat of ground.
